Springs Rescue Mission and Care and Share will kick off their Hunger Never Takes a Holiday food drive on April 1 at King Soopers on Centennial and West Fillmore Street in Colorado Springs (map). KKLI radio will broadcast live from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
The month-long food drive coincides with the release of the 2006 Hunger in America study, the most comprehensive analysis on hunger, conducted by America’s Second Harvest every four years. According to the study, there are over 39,000 residents of Southern Colorado who physically experience the pain of hunger, 35% of which are children.
All King Soopers stores in Colorado Springs and Pueblo will host food barrels during the month of April. Springs Rescue Mission and Care and Share are expecting to collect 6 tons of food to help relieve hunger locally.
This event is sponsored by King Soopers and advertising donated by the Gazette.
