Program graduate Janine describes her SRM journey:
Last month, over 65 individuals graduated or advanced through Springs Rescue Mission’s HOPE Program, a transformative initiative designed to address the complex issues of homelessness, poverty and addiction.
The HOPE Program provides critical support to help individuals achieve recovery, stable housing, meaningful work and improved health. Among these graduates was Janine, whose journey from homelessness to recovery exemplifies the program’s success.
Last year, Janine was homeless and alone. She had lost everything and was desperate for a helping hand — and some hope.
But things began to change for Janine after arriving at Springs Rescue Mission.
The following story was transcribed from handwritten notes Janine made before a short speech she gave to other program graduates and supporters.
“I arrived here one year and two months ago. I had basically been thrown on my rear, losing all I had, and had just spent the previous six months on the floor in my daughter’s kitchen.
I hadn’t the strength to do very much and couldn’t really see any options for myself up ahead, so I decided that the best course of action was to join the HOPE Program at Springs Rescue Mission.
There were things about it that were difficult, but I kept pushing forward — trying to stay on track. I reacquainted myself with my strengths and decided to make the most of where I was.
I focused my efforts on mending my relationships with my children. I am proud that I have a job at the hospital at Ft. Carson … and I do everything I can to maintain my income and my forward direction.
I am very thankful that the staff here at SRM are all very enjoyable people and seem to be accomplishing a lot. I wish them all the best and hope this place will continue to prosper and flourish as I have seen it do during my time here.
I still have a long way to go and am hopeful that I can make the most of my opportunity to live in one of the rooms at Samaritan House [an SRM transitional housing program]. I hope other residents at this graduation also continue to do well and achieve their goals. Thank you all.”
Janine’s journey from homelessness to recovery highlights the profound impact of holistic support in overcoming addiction and rebuilding a stable life. Through Springs Rescue Mission’s HOPE Program, individuals access vital resources supporting housing stability, employment opportunities, and health improvement. This integrated approach facilitates recovery and empowers individuals to achieve long-term success and well-being.

- Training Opportunities: While on campus, guests can learn new skills and marketable trades and receive certifications infields like culinary arts.
HOPE Program participants also enjoy improved accommodations, enhanced dining experiences, and access to on-campus community partner agencies like Diversus Health (formerly Aspen Pointe) for their mental health, Peak Vista for their physical health, SRM’s Chaplain David for their spiritual health and are presentative from the Department of Health and Human Services for their benefits.
